ASTHMA
Asthma
is a disease that affects the airways causing severe & sudden constriction of
tubes that carry air into the lungs. People suffering from Asthma (long-lasting/chronic
,recurrent or acute) are usually effected by some trigger that can be some
allergy,smoke,sudden fall in temperature ,infection, psychological shock like
phobia or some medicine.In Ayurveda, Asthma is known as 'Swas Roga', the vitiated 'Pranvayu' combines with the 'Kapha dosha' in the lungs causing
obstruction in the respiratory passage that leads to coughing, wheezing, chest tightness and
shortness of breath.
CAUSES
·
Hereditary
·
By excessive use of cold water and cold drinks
·
Too much intake of kapha vardhak padaraths
·
Excessive exposure to dust and smoke.
·
Excessive wind, cold, cold bath or excessive heat, sun bath
·
Exhaustive exercise, walking
·
Airborne allergens, such as pollen, animal dander,
cockroaches and dust miles
·
Respiratory infections, such as the common cold
SIGN & SYMPTOMS
· Shortness of breath
· Chest tightness or pain
· Trouble sleeping caused by
shortness of breath, coughing or wheezing
· A whistling or wheezing
sound when exhaling (wheezing is a common sign of asthma in children)
·
Coughing or wheezing attacks that are worsened by a
respiratory viral pneumonitis such as a cold or the flu

AYURVEDIC TREATMENT OF ASTHMA
·
During attacks - Apply warm 'Sesame
oil(Til-tail)' over chest and back .Apply hot fomentation
·
Take Dry Ginger (saunth powder)1/4 tea spoon
·
Piper Nigrum(Kali mirch)6+Common Black salt(Kala namak )1/4
teaspoon+ 5 leaves of Ocimum Sanctum(Tulsi)Boil
this mixture in 200 ml water reducing it to 50 ml. Filter and sip it.

PRECAUTIONS
Do’s
·
Drink warm water
·
Take steam
·
Wear a mask and glove when cleaning, vacuuming or painting to
limit dust & chemical exposure
·
When possible choose hardwood floors instead of
carpeting.If you must have carpeting
choose low one & Vacuum it twice a week
·
Keep indoor humidity low (25%-50%).Use dehumidifier
·
Regularly chang filters on heaters and air conditioners
DON'T
- Avoid fried and processed food
- Avoid food such as rice, curds, buttermilk, sugar, lentils
- Avoid over eating .Take light dinner one hour before going to bed
- Avoid fruits such as guava, papaya, watermelon and banana
